Frantic preparations are apparently underway by
a Hollywood studio to host Oscar-winning director Ang Lee (of Brokeback
Mountain and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon fame) in India. Earlier we
had reported how the filmmmaker plans to visit India in the later half
of the year. Now, there’s buzz that Lee — whose magnum opus Life of Pi
based on Yann Martel’s Booker prize winning novel by the same name is
set for a November release here — hopes to have the entire cast and crew
together for the promotional events right here in the last week of
October. “Usually, Hollywood studios have promotional activities planned
around in the US and other South Asian countries, but for Life of Pi,
they seem to be keen to focus on India-centric promotions, keeping in
mind the Indian flavour of the film,” says a source. “Besides Lee
himself was keen to come to India again, so talks are on to make it
possible,” the source adds. And as part of these promotions, the entire
cast and crew including Hollywood actors Tobey Maguire, Gerard Depardieu
and Indian actors Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Suraj Sharma, Adil Hussain are
expected to come together as well. The 3D adventure film that has been
extensively shot in Puducherry was already being touted as a possible
Oscar contender, when an early footage of the film was screened in Los
Angeles. |
