The London Games have commenced and Gagan Narang’s bronze has ensured
that a billion people have reason to hope for more medals. So if the
Olympics have inspired you enough to try a one-two combo with friends or
ape Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt’s nowfamous stance, there may be a way
for you to actually participate in some sporting events, virtually at
least. In the Zapak Olympiad, you can pit your skills against players
from all over the world in four events — hockey, table tennis, hurdles
and boxing.

“Sports is our most popular online gaming category. Our tennis, cricket
and hockey games do really well. Hence we decided to celebrate the
Olympics, which is the mother of all sporting events. We created a
platform that would not only bring real-time Olympic updates for users,
but also give them a chance to play these sports virtually,” says Deepak
Abbot, head of products, Reliance Entertainment Digital.
To play, users need to log on to olympics.zapak.com. The platform
also has contests, a leader board showing winners and real-time updates
from the Olympics. At the end of the Olympiad, which will be on till the
closing ceremony, top players in each of the four sporting events will
be given a motorbike sponsored by Hero Motors. Olympic updates are also
available on mobile at m.zapak.com/hero. “All four games are equally
popular on the site. Since amateurs play for only few minutes, rules
have to be created keeping these factors in mind. And all the events are
being covered in real time. You can see all the results, schedules,
news related to Indian athletes and a real-time medals tally,” says
Abbot.
