Actor George Clooney has put one of his many cars on
the auction block. The poster boy for fast cars, glamorous women and
social justice is selling his 2008 Tesla Roadster, a limited edition
obsidian black metallic sports car with a two-tone leather interior. The
electric-powered two-seater is expected to fetch between 100,000
dollars and 125,000 dollars, the Daily Mail reported. Proceeds from the
sale will go to the actor’s Satellite Sentinel Project, a non-profit
organisation co-founded by him to monitor the borders of Sudan via
satellite. The 51-year-old actor had bought the car in 2008, and was one
of Tesla’s first high-profile customers. He had helped to promote the
environmentally friendly start-up brand when electric cars were still
being considered slow. According to Clooney, the black two-seater —
which will be auctioned at Pebble Beach, California, on August 19 — is
‘thrilling to drive’. However, the Hollywood heartthrob has not been
tempted to get behind its wheel too often over the past four years and
the car has notched up only 1,700 miles on the odometer. “We are
overjoyed to present George Clooney’s Signature 100 Tesla because this
is an incredible opportunity to purchase a modern collector car with all
the right elements: one-owner, celebrity provenance, historical
significance, limited-edition rarity and philanthropic ties,” David
Gooding, president and founder of the auction company, said.
