No one can go beyond the vision of the director: Vishal

While Munni Badnam Hui and Sheila Ki Jawaani created dhamaka at the box office, these item songs have often been criticised for their content. The session ‘Songs of Our Times’ saw Vishal Dadlani and lyricists Piyush Mishra and Irshad Kamil talking about this very trend. The session was moderated by Nasreen Munni Kabir. Piyush said, “Where logic ends, art begins.”
Speaking about Sheila Ki Jawaani, Vishal said, “We never expected the song to become such a hit. It was supposed to be a cheesy song that was to be a part of a B-grade film within the film. But people loved it. No one can go beyond the vision of the director.” When asked whether their ideologies affect their lyrics, Irshad said, “We don’t work for ideologies, we work for films. You have to be truthful to the situation.”
