After garnering much appreciation for his role in Shanghai, actor Abhay Deol is now gearing for his next outing in Prakash Jha’s Chakravyuh, which is also said to be rather political in nature. But the actor insists that though belonging to the same genre, the two couldn’t have been more different. Not just that, the actor reveals that the perceptions of both the filmmakers are completely different. Says Abhay, “Prakash Jha’s vision is different from Dibakar (Shanghai director Dibakar Banerjee). Even if they both are saying the same thing.”
Talking about Chakravyuh, which also stars Arjun Rampal, a source reveals that the film is aimed to be a social commentary on the issues of Naxalism. “Abhay is playing a Naxalite in it, while Arjun is a top cop,” adds the source.
While in Shanghai, the actor had undergone intensive training to work on his language to get the right Tamil accent, in Chakravyuh, one of the challenges was also shooting in the jungles. “This was the first time that Abhay is doing action chases, so though running seems easy, it’s actually dangerous when it has to be done in forests like Abhay had to do. It was hard not to avoid getting cuts and bruises while shooting, but Abhay trained hard and pulled it off with ease,” shares the insider.
The actor, say unit members, may soon be giving actor Aamir Khan competition, when it comes to the ‘perfectionist’ tag. “The dedication that he brings to the table is amazing,” said a production hand. But ask Abhay about it and he waves it off as being a day’s work for an actor. “We just do what we have to as actors. And if it means going that extra mile to look the part then why not. The point is in convincing the audience to look at you as the character and not actor,” says Abhay.
