Irrfan to star opposite Nimrat Kaur in a love tale about an older man and a young woman
If all goes well, Irrfan will soon star opposite modelturned-actor Nimrat Kaur in debutant Ritesh Batra’s Dabba (The Lunchbox). What’s interesting to note is that film is about an older man (to be played by Irrfan) and a young woman (Nimrat) who happen to meet each other and eventually begin to build a fantasy life together. The film will also star Huma Qureshi and Nawazuddin Siddique of Gangs of Wasseypur fame.“Though the story is about a young woman and an older man, it has nothing to do with the 2007 films Nishabd and Cheeni Kum. Ritesh has given a very fresh twist to their relationship and how it should be etched out in a balanced manner,” says an insider close to the project. Apparently, costume designer Niharika Khan has been roped in to create the look of the characters in this film.
Nimrat was last seen in Vasan Bala’s Peddlers, which was one of
India’s entries at Cannes Film Festival this year. Besides, she has also
acted in the 2006 Hollywood film, One Night With The King, starring
Tiffany Dupont and Luke Goss.
While co-producers Anurag Kashyap, Guneet Monga and Irrfan remained unavailable for comments, the insider confirms that the casting process was completed after Nimrat was roped in a few days ago. “The film is likely to go on the floors around August-September,” he adds. Last year, this script was much talked about at Goa’s annual Film Bazaar Screenwriters’ Lab from where it was selected for Cinemart at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2012. The film is a co-production by Anurag Kashyap Films, Cine Mosaic, ASAP Films and RohFilm.
