‘I never got a call from Karan’
Parineeti Chopra denies rumours that KJO offered her a film, or that she has signed Yash Raj’s next
She got the eyeballs with her debut in Ladies vs. Ricky Behl (2011), while her second release, Ishaqzaade, put her in the spotlight. Yet Parineeti Chopra says she hasn’t signed any film thereafter. What about the rumours of her future projects?“False,” she says.
The big rumour after the release of Ishaqzaade was that Karan Johar had approached the actor for a film directed by Punit Malhotra, starring Imran Khan. Later, reports suggested that Parineeti had
spoken too soon about the project in public, which irked the filmmaker and he replaced her with Kareena Kapoor. Parineeti isn’t amused by the rumours: “Why would I show off to the world that I got a film with Karan when I don’t have one? I never got a call from Karan, Punit or anyone from Dharma Productions for the film. These reports are completely false. I know Karan and Punit, and have met them many times. If they thought I was right for the part, they would have offered it to me.”
As she has a three-film contract with Yash Raj Films, it was also
said that she has signed her third film, with Shahid Kapoor as her
co-star. Parineeti refutes this as well, saying, “That news isn’t
confirmed. I’ve been reading many scripts, but nothing has been
confirmed. The moment the production house has everything in place, they
will announce it.”
We reckon that even if the news is true, an embargo might prevent her from talking about the project.
Bollywood loves repeating hit pairs, so after Ishaqzaade, it was expected that she would get films with Arjun. “I haven’t got any offers with him either. Though he’s signed Aurangazeb and Two States, I am not doing either of the films,” she says. It must be said, however, that since the film’s release (in May), Arjun has already signed two big films, while Parineeti hasn’t signed any.
In her two films so far, she has played fiery, headstrong women. Would she consciously try something different with her next? “I will choose what I get and will try to ensure that it is different from my earlier roles. The character and the script would be the prime focus for me,” she says.
