‘I’m so excited to play in my own city’

She has performed at the Durga Puja events in several
cities/countries in the past few years, but this time around, singer
Sunidhi Chauhan is all kicked about playing in Vashi. “I have previously
done many shows abroad and in other Indian cities… But the best part
about is that this year I will be performing in Mumbai itself. So it’s
going to be fun I’m sure,” says Sunidhi who is thinking about playing
some Bengali songs for the occasion.
And before you begin to wonder what’s in store, Sunidhi explains “It is going to be like any other normal Bollywood show… I won’t be singing bhajans (smirks)… However I will definitely try and sing a Bengali song or a Tagore song… I remember a Tagore song that I had sung for a show called Panchakanya, along with Ashaji and other well-known singers, some two-three years ago.” And that’s not all that Sunidhi is kicked about. The Sheila ki Jawani hit maker has also lent her voice to the character of Sita in the upcoming animated movie Sons of Ram, by Amar Chitra Katha. “I absolutely love animation. I can still watch those Warner Brother films all day long… However it was a tough job to sound like Sita, and that I eventually did it, makes me glad,” says Sunidhi who had also dubbed for the Hindi version of the animated comedy Rio previously. “I had to work a lot to sound perfectly matured and controlled for Sita’s character. In fact the people who have seen the film already, say that they couldn’t make out it’s me talking… (smiles) I think that’s a good job done,” she adds. And while at the moment there is much buzz about popstar Enrique’s gig in India, we ask Sunidhi — who had collaborated with him for his song Heartbeat — whether she will be attending the gig or meeting him. “Unfortunately, no. He’s playing in Pune I know. As of now there’s nothing that’s been planned though. But if those guys call me or something we shall see how it works,” she ends. |
