L Subramaniam performs with Stevie Wonder at UN concert

At the 67th anniversary celebrations of the United Nations, renowned Indian violinist L Subramaniam joined the likes of Janelle Monae, Sting, Valerie Simpson and the legendary Stevie Wonder, the UN’s Messenger of Peace. Subramaniam was invited to to perform at the United Nations Day Concert on October 24 at the UN
General Assembly Hall in New York.
His daughter Bindu Subramaniam, shared with Bombay Times, “My dad was the only instrumental soloist there and the only performer out of the US. He performed two duets with Stevie Wonder, one being Ma Cherie Amour and the other called Higher Ground.”
    Bindu, who caught the
show on the internet, “Watching him perform was extremely overwhelming, especially when Stevie Wonder complimented my dad. He also hugged him on stage in front of the crowd saying, ‘This is my friend L Subramaniam’.”
    Though this was Subramaniam’s
third performance at the UN, it was a totally different experience for him, Bindu tells us. “This was the first time he was performing someone else’s song and was attempting pop. Collaborating with Stevie Wonders was amazing.”
