Bollywood music is the Ultimate: Sean Paul
From exploring folk music to visiting the Taj Mahal, trying Indian food, handpicking zardosi jackets and celebrating Bollywood, this reggae artist, who will be playing in India next month, is kicked about his maiden tour

Ever since Sean Paul confirmed his Indian tour, his fans have been on a musical high. The Get Busy hit maker who will be playing in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru on Nov 2, 3 and 4 respectively plans to make the most of his stay in the country as he wants to dig into the rich Indian culture. Excerpts from an interview:

What is in store for us?
A bag full of surprises! I’m here for my fans to showcase a musical extravaganza making them groove to all my favorite songs from my albums and my latest Tomahawk Technique. When I was told that they want to blend my concert with the festival of lights and set up the stage with mirrors, lights, crystals, I already felt like I was in India with Indian fans. I’ll be getting along a fleet of Jamaican women to set the stage on fire.

This being your first visit to India, what are you most excited about?
I’ve been wanting to visit India for the past six years. I heard that Indian people treat their guests like God and are very affectionate... I’ve been promised a full-fledged India tour by the organisers. I’m excited about every little thing — the culture, the people, the places and the food.

How aware are you of Bollywood and Indian music?
I may not understand Hindi much but I’m certainly aware of Indian music. I’m amazed how each different state has beautiful folk compositions and their trademark musical instruments. I’d like to someday go on a tour and learn about the folk music. Bollywood music is the ultimate, we have Bollywood nights in clubs here.

What is the first thing you associate with India?
Trust me, before I return I’d have had tasted every possible Indian dish you could name. I am a foodie and I did a little research on the dishes I could relish in the cities I would be performing in. Mumbai for its chaat, Delhi for the spicy Punjabi dishes, Bengaluru for its South Indian food... I can’t wait to get there.

Any place you’re keen on visiting?
How can I not visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World?! However I’m paying a visit to the Taj Mahal despite the time constraint. I really want to know its story. India has a rich cultural heritage. I just hope in the stipulated time of my visit, I can make the most of it.

What souvenir would you take back home?
I am fond of jackets, so I’ll be visiting Indian designers to get zardosi work on them and take them back home.
