She is just two-films old and the third is on the anvil, but Esha Gupta has done what what most actors would consider professional harakiri. She has made her TV debut quick on the heels of her big screen debut, something which none in her position would even consider. “I don’t want to follow what others are doing. I will make my own rules,” says the actor who has chosen to host a show on supercars. “I love cars, have been driving one since a very young age. And when an opportunity to present a show on cars came my way, I was more than happy to do it,” she says, adding that she wants to break the perception that women are not familiar with hot wheels and what they’re all about.
Even when it comes to films Esha, who made her debut with the thriller Jannat 2, followed it up with a horror flick Raaz 3. “It was quite a risk especially since it was an ‘A’ film,” says Esha. Remind her that her first film was also certified A, and she says that it was only because of the abusive language. “But Raaz 3 was in the horror genre which is completely different,” she says.
In her upcoming film Chakravyuh, the sexy actor will be essaying the role of an older woman. “My look is completely deglam. I wanted to work with Prakash Jha who takes up an issue and weaves a story around it in an interesting, entertaining way.” Esha, who has an Air Force background, reveals that she was better informed about the issue of Naxalism that her film deals with even before she started shooting for it. “I have been privy to several discussions on it between my father and his friend, which is why I knew a lot about it. This film is therefore, close to my heart,” shares Esha.
Ask her about not going in for the usual song and dance shows to make her TV debut and she says she just loves the roaring sound of a car. “Cars are a thing of beauty. I remember seeing a James Bond film where he drives a beautiful black Aston Martin and since then it’s my dream to have one. Of course, I should be able to afford it,” she smiles.
