As sharp as their cinema
It’s unusual to see nattily dressed directors, even for formal evenings. But during a recent event in Mumbai, we were pleasantly surprised to meet four of Bollywood’s new-age directors dressed to kill. Madhur Bhandarkar, Imtiaz Ali, Rohit Shetty and Kunal Kohli were dressed to the nines in formalwear by Blackberrys during the brand’s Sharp Nights — Director’s Cut event. The directors took to the ramp in new creations by the brand, metaphorically representing a combination of talent and style. While talking to us about the time and money they invest in fashion, Kunal confessed to being a “quick shopper”, while Rohit said that he’s a “confused shopper”. But, like Imtiaz, all of them agreed that just like their cinema, they’ve all been investing effort in making sharper statements. While talking about his fashion statement, Madhur added, “I shop for all kinds of clothes from all sorts ofplaces — be it designer stores in Paris or local shops in Mumbai. Our styles are reflective of the kind of people we are.” There were also many cheeky jabs exchanged between the four directors and many confessions, including when Kunal told us that he purchased his first ever tuxedo for Karan Johar’s 40th birthday! Blackberrys Menswear directors, Nitin and Nikhil Mohan played perfect hosts at this event held at Tote on the Turf, Mahalaxmi Race Course. The fashion show was accompanied by high-octane music by DJ and percussionist Jonqui. Laser violinist Lumia also won many loud cheers for her skills. The Sharp Nights concept is a celebration of the values of “Sharp” men from across various walks of life.
