Not just another famous face
Actor Sushmita Sen apparently faced rejection when she started out as an entrepreneur, but positive thinking kept her going
Actor Sushmita Sen has no time to star in films anymore and is devoting a major chunk of her time, resources and energy into her business ventures. But Sushmita makes it very clear that when the entrepreneurial bug bit her, it wasn't a cake walk just because she was a famous face. Being a known face and a celebrity has its advantages, she agrees, but that didn't play a big role in helping her bag business assignments.
Those who know the actor-cum-entrepreneur closely, say that even though people around her keep telling her that she has the charm to floor people, Sush has never believed that being an actor and an ex beauty pageant winner will ensure a smooth sailing ride for her. "She likes to do her research before getting into any venture. It's not like she wakes up one day and decides to cash in on being a celebrity and signs up to be part of another person's business ventures. Sushmita likes to do it all by herself and when she sets her mind on to something, she makes sure that she is involved in every stage of the project – right from the ideation to what it looks like on paper, to the execution," says a source close to the actor.
Sushmita herself revealed that when she was initially looking for sponsors for one of her ventures, she had to face rejection. Talking about what kept her going on the sidelines of an event, she had said, "It's a tough world out there and when I want to bag a project, I do it like any other entrepreneur would – I do my research and make a presentation. Then my team and I meet the concerned party, give them our presentation. Sometimes we score, sometimes we don't, but isn't that how life is?"
The actor added, "I honestly don't believe in keeping grudges. I keep telling myself that if someone didn't want to be a part of my ideas today, I should work so hard and make my venture so successful that tomorrow they would give anything to be on board with me. That's when I'll know that I'm a success."
