Sridevi’s English class

Sridevi’s English class

The film shows a motley group come together to learn English to prove that language is never a deterrent to bonds and attachments. Inspired by characters that director Gauri met when she took an English-speaking course herself as part of her script research, the class is a slice of life in a diverse America — from a Spanish nanny who can barely keep herself awake after her demanding baby-sitting job, to a reserved blue-collared African worker. True to New York city, there is also a Pakistani cab driver, and a pretty Chinese girl who works in a beauty parlour. Mehdi Nebbou plays a French chef, matching Sridevi’s character, Shashi’s penchant for cooking. Of course, the city would be incomplete without a Tamilian software engineer who misses his mother and her idlis! And if this wasn’t colourful enough a class, the teacher indeed bright
ens it up with his snazzy shirts and polka dotted bow ties. Here’s a little bit about each actor...
Ruth Aguilar: Eva, the Spanish nanny, is an accomplished jazz vocalist.
Sumeet Vyas: Salman, the Pakistani cabbie, is a theatre actor, seen in movies such as Aarakshan and Mumbai Meri Jaan.
Rajeev Ravindranathan: Rama, the Tamilian software engineer, is a theatre actor who runs his own digital marketing firm. Was in 3 Idiots as the lead ragging senior.
Damian Thompson: Udumbke, African, is a dancer and comedian.
Cory Hibbs: David, teacher, is an actor, writer, composer, educator.
Maria Romano: Yu Son, Chinese beautician, is a budding theatre and TV actor
Mehdi Nebbou: Laurent, French cook. Famous Hollywood and French actor Mehdi Nebbou makes his debut in Hindi cinema.
