RAM CHARAN PERFORMS HIGHOCTANE STUNTS IN ZANJEER
Telugu superstar Ram Charan, who is reprising the iconic role of ACP Vijay Khanna (played by Amitabh Bachchan) in the remake of Zanjeer, had to perform a lot of death-defying stunts in the film. The actor marks his debut in B-Town with the Apoorva Lakhia directed film and is paired opposite Priyanka Chopra. The movie boasts of some heavy duty, stylised action sequences by action directors Javed and Aejaz, some of which Ram has performed on his own.
For one of the sequences, the action team recreated one of Asia’s largest slums at a set in Mumbai. As many as 250 slums were built for the chase scene involving oil mafia goons that required Ram to zip his way through narrow zig-zag bylanes. In what could have been a major disaster, Ram, we hear, apparently saved the life of a stuntman A source from the sets reveals, “While chasing one of the goons in the sequence, Ram had to take a sharp turn. The fighter, who was being chased, suddenly slipped and fell down. Unfortunately, the accident was not visible to the crew due to the huge cloud of dust and smoke that had enveloped Ram’s car. Ram immediately sensed that something was amiss and applied the breaks before anything untoward could happen. The entire crew was thankful to the actor for his presence of mind.”
Besides this particular action sequence, other sequences also reportedly required the actor to jump from three-storey buildings, break window panes, smash glasses and dive underwater. Along with Ram Charan and Priyanka, the films has an ensemble cast of Sanjay Dutt, Prakash Raj, Mahie Gill, and Atul Kulkarni.
Zanjeer, produced by Reliance Entertainment, Puneet Prakash Mehra and Sumeet Prakash Mehra, releases September 6.
