Exhaustion and stress got to me
Shamin Mannan, who lost out on a show due to the demands of showbiz, will now be seen in a standup comedy show
It was “unhealthy practices” that resulted in TV actress Shamin Mannan being replaced by Kadambari Kadam as Bhoomi in Sanskaar-Dharohar Apnon Ki. The actress, who’s in better health now, says “the constant demands of looking good, staying fit and working continuously” made her do “silly things”.
Mannan says she worked continuously for nine months — that too, without any holidays for the first four months. She explains, “I worked 12-18 hours everyday and sometimes even 24-32 hours, with only a couple of hours’ break. I suffered from exhaustion, stress and even fainted on the set a couple of times. I used to eat chocolates to boost my energy levels. With no exercise, I put on weight, which only added to my stress. I then decided to follow a diet randomly picked from the internet. I’d report to the set on an empty stomach. Eventually, I became so frail that I was put on saline drip and advised bed rest for seven days. But I was given only a four-day holiday. Since working on the show and my career was so crucial, I would still report on the set. But when I fainted again, I had to make a decision — either continue working at the cost of my health or quit. Finally, I left the show.”
However, Shamin is geared up to face the camera again — she will soon be seen in an episode of Comedy Nights with Kapil. The actress says, “It is a refreshing change to be part of a non-fiction show.” Incidentally, the show that Shamin lost out on is also going off air.
