The Puris’ fight started over the actor’s phone call to a female friend

Theirs has been a rocky marriage for the last few years, but what happened last Thursday in the Puri household at Seven Bungalows marks a new low in their affairs.
On August 22 evening, the actor, who is an infrequent visitor to the house, preferring to stay on his own, came home, ostensibly to catch up with their son Ishaan. Since the teenager was busy with his tuition, the actor allegedly made a call to a woman friend, which was objected to by Nandita. Apparently, that was all the provocation Om needed to beat his wife (see pic).
According to an eyewitness account, Om was like a man possessed as he lunged at Nandita and hurled brass and
bamboo artefacts from the drawing room at her. One of those hit her on the right elbow. Om pushed her against the wall even as their son, his tuition teacher, Nandita’s mother, and their domestic help appeared helpless in the face of the actor’s impotent rage.
After unleashing his fury, Om stormed out of the house, and Nandita rushed to Cooper Hospital, where her injuries
were attended to, and a certificate issued. Armed with the medical certificate from Cooper, Nandita then went to the Versova Police Station where she waited till 4 am for them to lodge an FIR against Om Puri, and agree to her request of issuing a non-bailable arrest warrant against her husband.
Nandita has also asked the police to impound her husband’s passport as he’s slated to leave the country on August 30 for a Steven Spielberg film that will see him paired opposite Helen Mirren.
A completely shaken and distraught Nandita hopes that her husband’s celebrity status will not come in the way of justice being meted out to her and her son, who is “absolutely traumatised”.
