actor Priyanka Chopra's already bagging awards as a singer

An award for turning singer?!

She's yet to release her first song, but actor Priyanka Chopra's already bagging awards as a singer

Even before actor Priyanka Chopra has released a single track of her debut album, the actor has earned an award for turning singer! This makes her the first Indian celebrity to be awarded much ahead of her debut.
It has been announced that Priyanka will be the recipient of the 2011 Trailblazer award at this year's New York City's South Asians in Media, Marketing and Entertainment Association (SAMMA), North America Conference.
"At the heart of being a great entertainer and artist is taking risks and never resting on your success. With Priyanka's push here in the US as a musician and singer, she is pushing into exciting new creative territories and taking creative risks which is essential to being a great artist," said Rajan Shah, co-founder of SAMMA. It is also a case in point that the music label, Desi Hits whose clients include Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Jay Sean, has taken the Bollywood actor on board for her music album. Troy Carter, who represents Britney and Lady Gaga, is actively associated with 'Project Priyanka'.
This association with the label has also helped in clinching the award for the actor, according to the statement. "Priyanka signing a deal with Desi Hits! Universal to launch a new music career in the US is another great example of how India is leading the way in fusing culture and entertainment, and the tremendous creativity that Indian artists have to offer the world," Shah is quoted as saying in the statement.
The award ceremony will be held in New York's Time Warner Center on September 16 and 17. Incidentally, VJ Anusha Dandekar is supposed to make her singing debut at the award ceremony.
So, what do you think is happening on Priyanka's front? She, apparently, is working hard to ensure that the awards that are already coming her way are justified. "She's currently in the studio writing and recording her debut pop album, which will be sung in English…" the statement said.
