Former associates reveal that the actor has decided to show his activist side as he plans to deal with serious issues on national television

The reclusive star Aamir Khan, who's usually visible in public only when his film is up for release, surprised everyone by stepping out to support anti corruption crusader, Anna Hazare at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi recently. He later put his weight behind Manipuri activist Irom Chanu Sharmila's more than a decade-long hunger strike against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act for alleged violation of human rights by security forces in the northeast.
Internet chatrooms and micro-blogging sites are abuzz that these appearances could be a well-planned marketing tactic ahead of his upcoming television show. Apparently, Aamir's TV show will have him dealing with serious issues that need public attention.
"Aamir has always supported RTI activists, who've raised their voice against issues like corruption and human rights violation. Now., Aamir wants to tackle these issues on national television and show his activist side to the world. Hence, you find him coming out in public in support of Hazare and Irom Sharmila. It'll go a long way into settling him as a host of television show that tackles serious issues," says a former colleague of the actor.
Sources say that Aamir's show is diametrically opposite to his rival, actor Shah Rukh Khan's shows like Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas... and Zor Ka Jhatka which garnered low TRPs. "The show is also likely to showcase documentaries by activists and is in its nascent stage right now. The concept and the modalities of the show are still in the developing stage," says a source.
