Watch fashion go tipsy!
Style gurus suggest that shades of alcohol are hot this season…
How about wearing your favourite drink tonight? Champagne, wine and brandy are some of the many alcoholic drinks which are hot colours for this season, say our very own fashionistas — reinstating in a way, an international wine expert's view that tipsy colours are the in thing this season.
Burgundy, the reddish purple shade of wine, is one colour that's popular among both men and women, suggests fashion designer Rocky S. "I personally find burgundy quite irresistible which is evident in my bridal collection," he says. "It's one colour that's going to remain in vogue for some time now. Not just clothes, but even as a hair colour. Burgundy lips are the best alternative to red lips and lend a mysterious air to the wearer. It's also the most in demand when it comes to flowers and wedding trousseau this festive season," he adds. The other popular cocktail drink inspired colours include 'champagne and gorgeous whiskey golden brown'.
Designer Azeem Khan, however, prefers to use a brighter shade of burgundy or use it with a shade of champagne — which, he feels, is a "beautiful colour with a brilliant lustre". "Champagne and black is a stunning combination," he says. "I also use a lot of the pretty mint colour of Crème de menthe and the light coffee colour of Kahlua in my collections."
"Burgundy is a colour that we Indians have been donning for years now…it's nothing new," asserts designer Krishna Mehta, who predicts that we'll witness burgundy and wine shades in the coming season. And while most designers are high on these tipsy shades, designer James Ferreira feels that besides alcohol, it's also the shades of spices that are a hit like "mehendi brown, burnt orange, etc".
"Burgundy is such a wedding colour, but it's not recommended for younger people," he says. "How you have the little black dress (LBD) in the West…you have the little burgundy dress in India," quips Ferreira.
