Karan Johar’s proteges battle it out on social networking sites

    Karan Johar’s discoveries — Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan — have found their own support groups online and are, in fact, competing with each other in the virtual area, just like they do in the film. The two young actors, who have been pitted against each other in Student Of The Year (SOTY), have attracted the attention of the youth in a big way. And though both of them are active on social networking sites, they feign ignorance of the status updates. When you tell Sidharth that he is leading by a margin of tweets, he screams, “Varun, main jeet raha hoon!” But immediately adds, “What competition? Both, Varun and I are sailing in the same boat. We have nothing to hold on to. It is too early for us to compete. We competed openly only for Karan’s (Johar) praise throughout,” laughs Sidharth.
    Adds Varun, “In the film, we fight to be the best. I believe that if you don’t have fights, you are not true friends.” He also confesses that he sought Sidharth’s help
when it came to grooming. “I am zero in these departments,” he smiles. “And Varun educated me on Bollywood’s box office business which I don’t understand,” says Sidharth.
    The trio (including the leading lady Alia) drew a good response when they visited educational institutions all over the country for the promotion of SOTY. “I have walked the ramp so many times, but when I took just five steps backstage and saw the girls cheering for me at a college in Mumbai, it gave me a different high. I got goose bumps,” says Sidharth. Varun got nostalgic when he visited the college he passed out from a few years ago. “I would spend a lot of time roaming in the same corridors where I was standing and promoting my film,” says Varun. KJO is obviously delighted. “I am overwhelmed to see the enthusiasm and energy the youth demographic has for our film... and I’m truly hoping and praying that the release day will be a time to DISCO!”
