Remembering Gautam Rajadhyaksha
The ace fashion photographer passed away yesterday; glamour world grieves
Ace fashion photographer and the country's best known celebrity portraitist, Gautam Rajadhyaksha passed away yesterday morning following a massive heart attack.
Having shot almost every popular celebrity in the country, the photographer was known for his soft focus shots. Though he had a diploma in advertising and public relations, Gautam joined the photo services department in a leading ad agency in 1974. He then took to shooting photographs for his articles, which were being published in his cousin, writer Shobhaa De's celebrity magazine. This was when he gained popularity as a glamour photographer.
He not only wrote coffee table books, but also scripts for films like Bekhudi and Anjaam. Those who knew him called him a scholar as he was an avid music lover and collector of opera recordings.
"He was to celebrate his birthday on 16th September. He was in top form and was all packed to leave for Pune, where he was to inaugurate the school of photography at the Symbiosis institute on his birthday. His dying of heart attack is shocking as neither he nor anyone from our family have a history of heart ailments," Shobhaa told After Hrs.
"He will forever be the guru of portrait photography. Also his knowledge on music was phenomenal. He will be truly missed as a true friend and confidante," she added.
