Rumour mills are agog with every possible goss on the sequel to Shekhar Kapur's Mr. India (1987) but actor Satish Kaushik, who played the lively, goofy and caring cook Calendar in the same, reveals, the plan is way far from being even sketched and the production is not starting anytime soon. “Talks are going on since a long time. Sometimes Shekhar tells me it's going to happen. Boney (Kapoor, producer) tells me the same. But to my knowledge, nothing has been put on paper yet,“ says the 55year-old, adding, “But it'll be a fantastic brand legacy to take forward.“ Looking surprised when told about actor Salman Khan being reportedly roped in as the villain for the 3D sequel, the comedian-filmmaker, says, his character should also return, if there is a Part II.
“If Mr. India 2 happens, Calendar should be there,“ says Kaushik, who is on a self-confessed “sabbatical“ from direction this year. “I have taken a back seat.
I have been studying and travelling a lot. It was a very important period for me to rediscover myself,“ says Kaushik.
As of now, he is busy gymming, shooting for an all international cast Ice Skating movie Promise Dad and building up on his library with scripts like Yours Faithfully, Happy Te Lucky and Love in Punjab. Apart from these, he has also managed the rights to big screen adaptations of books namely Mayanagri and The Company Red. “There is a talk of a Tamil film also that I'm in talks to adapt,“ says Kaushik, who also turned a distributor recently with British film West Is West.
