Akshay won't step out
Officials at the Ludhiana Sports stadium pressed the panic button when the actor refused to drive his jeep on the stadium's athletic track
Last week, actor Akshay Kumar had a major disagreement with the officials at the sports stadium in Ludhiana when he refused to step onto the tracks, riding on a jeep. Sources say that senior officials from the sports ministry had to intervene to bring him on to the ground. "When Akshay asked for the sequence on events, he was told that he will have to drive the jeep and wave at the audience. He then asked the organisers as to where he would have to drive the jeep." says a source.
Akshay being a sportsperson is aware that medium – heavy vehicles like jeeps and cars cannot be driven on the athletic tracks because it the tracks get damaged permanently due to the tyre pressure. The pressure may make the tracks uneven which might also result in accidents. "Akshay said the moment his jeep would step on the tracks, he would be embroiled in a controversy which he didn't want to do. A team of senior sports officials rushed to talk to him and convince him but he stood his ground," the source adds.
Actor Yana Gupta who was supposed to make an appearance with Akshay was also kept waiting because Akshay didn't want to use the jeep given to him. "A senior official from the Punjab sports ministry then stepped forward and instructed his men to ensure that Akshay is not forced to drive on the tracks. Even though Akshay would remain far away from the audience, he drove his jeep on the grass (in the inner circle of the stadium) with Yana standing on the jeep. It was not exactly the way it was planned but Akshay averted a major controversy by doing this. He is a sportsperson himself so he knows that he is not supposed to drive on the tracks," the source ends.
