Fluttering 'em man style
Now men have something to flutter about too — fake eye lashes!
Fashion for metrosexuals is now being taken on a whole new level, with a British cosmetic company introducing 'Guy Lashes' — fake eye lashes for men! It's just another addition to the make-up range for men which includes Guyliner, Manscara and nail polish for men.
Guy Lashes have new natural lashes for men. The eye lashes consist of an invisible strip, which sticks to your eyelids and comes in two types —fine and thick natural lashes. Wearers can choose from either of the two varieties, which have been designed to be discreet and promises to recreate that natural look and give volume to sparse lashes. Though some Hollywood stars like Johnny Depp and Russell Brand are known for experimenting with their looks, one could hardly say the same will follow here in India.
Comedian and VJ Cyrus Sahukar says, "Men already have enough things to worry about, that they now need to sport fake eye lashes. Nowadays apart from the hair on the head, men are actually trying their best to get rid of hair from rest of their body. Be it waxing, shaving, laser and what not...they are all at it. Personally, I don't think men fluttering their eye lashes is going to get them anywhere." Make-up artist Mehera Kolah adds, "I don't really see the product working here. Though I personally haven't seen anyone use the product yet, but am sure it will take a long time to work here in India among the common people."
Though it is not common in Indian markets, fake eye lashes are apparently a big hit in the Asian markets. According to some surveys, Asian people have naturally shorter lashes than their Western counterparts. "I mean why not…men go for manicures and pedicures so I do see them trying the product out, especially if you are in the entertainment business," says make-up artist Pallavi Symons.
